ResizedImage951384632053317-1Angie proposed to me in 2012 and surprised me by submitting our story to your “Most Romantic Couple” contest. We were awarded the April Most Romantic Couple in 2012.
I want to take a moment to update the fairy tale story. Angie’s dad died when she was young but he meant everything to her. When his sister-in-law Tammy heard about the proposal she said we could come to stay with her in Kauai and she would take care of the wedding arrangements. Angie was so excited. We applied for our license online and her aunt Tammy began making all the arrangements. Angie had never been anywhere before and was now getting on a plane for the first time to fly to the Hawaiian Islands.
We took Angie’s daughter Courtney and her baby boy Ty with us. Her aunt Tammy arranged our wedding to take place on the beautiful Shipwrecks Beach on Kauai. The ceremony was performed by Pat a local minister and friend of the family. He started the ceremony with the traditional blowing of a conk shell upon Angie’s arrival to the beach. The ceremony was a mix of traditional and island customs and was amazing. Tammy had made arrangements for us to spend our honeymoon night in the Grand Hyatt Resort.
The rest of our stay had us hiking to beautiful waterfalls and exploring hidden beaches. We saw whales from the beach while watching beautiful sunsets. As I am a motorcycle enthusiast the local Harley Davidson dealer set us up with a new bike for a day of riding the coasts of the island. We were sad to leave after 10 days of amazing island relaxation but we were ready to get back home as Mr. and Mrs French.
