From the monthly archives: December 2010

In March of 2010, Alex, told me that he wanted to take me on a weekend trip to Branson, MO just to get away from everything and relax.  I loved the idea, so we started making plans for our trip right away!  He had already made some plans with Jet Ski rentals and tickets to the theater.  It sounded like the trip was going to be a great weekend getaway and I couldn’t wait to go!  He told me that we would be leaving May 8, 2010 at 5:00AM.  The one thing you should know about me, is that I am not a morning person. Leaving early in the morning was not my idea of a good time, but I went along with it because it was his trip.  The alarm went off at 4:00AM Saturday May 8th, and as I was rolling out of bed Alex came in the bedroom with a huge grin on his face.  He had a Hawaiian shirt on, so I immediately thought that he was going to freeze in Branson!  My next reaction was, why in the world was he wearing that shirt?

He handed me an envelope that had the number “1” on it. I opened it, and the first page said, “Re-pack your bags were flying to Miami!” As you can imagine, I was shocked, happy, and couldn’t believe it.  Inside of the envelope he had flight tickets and a local weather schedule. I couldn’t believe that he was able to surprise me, because I am usually so hard to surprise.  While re-packing, I kept asking Alex where we were going and what was going on but he wouldn’t answer me.  So when we got to the airport, we boarded a plane to Miami!

Right before we landed, Alex handed me another envelope and this one was labeled number “2.” Inside he had information on a car rental for a Mustang convertible!! I thought something was up at this point, but he wasn’t offering up any information.  We grabbed some snacks and drinks for the road, and as we were joy riding he handed me another envelope.  This one was labeled number “3,” and it had directions to Homestead, Florida and a CD full of some Caribbean jams.  At this point, I couldn’t believe how much trouble and preparation he had put into surprising me! As soon as we hit Homestead, Florida he handed me another envelope that had the number “4” on it.  Inside he had hotel keys for one of the nicest hotels in Key West (Casa Marina)!!!  I have always wanted to go to Key West, so he got major points for this one!  I kept waiting for the next envelope, but at that point he had told me that there were no more surprises.  I was a little disappointed because I assumed he had gone through this much trouble to ask me to be his wife.  I tried to put it in the back of my head and just enjoy was he was doing for me at the time.

On May 9th, 2010, Alex wanted to have dinner on the beach near our hotel.  I was so excited for our romantic night and even wore a dress while he put on a suit.  When we got to the beach, I noticed that Alex had set up a candlelit dinner!  After dinner, he suggested that we have the waiter take a picture of our romantic evening.  As the waiter was snapping away, Alex got down on one knee and proposed!!

Inside the little blue box was the Tacori ring that I had fallen in love with from Denney Jeweler’s back in January 2010! Everyone started cheering and clapping, and they brought us champagne! I was so happy that I could barely stand! Alex went above and beyond for this proposal. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be with someone like Alex and I cannot wait to marry him!

Thank you Denney Jewelers for helping us find my dream engagement ring!

The Sunday before Josh left for Iraq on September 15, he told me that he had to help his brother set up a deer stand at their family farm. He wanted to come and pick me up at my parent’s house afterward and take me back out there to ride 4-wheelers.

I wasn’t in the mood to go, but my dad (who already knew what was coming) convinced me to go. After riding around on the farm for 20 minutes, he took me to the lower field. The grass was up high, but as we turned the corner, I saw that he had mowed out an area and set up a table with pictures of us, wine, candles, and a dozen roses. At this point, I was surprised but only thought he was doing something nice for me since he was leaving in a few days; a proposal was the furthest thought from my mind.

I turned around and he was pulling a beautiful tiny box out of the back of the 4-wheeler. He told me that for the past few months he had been lying to me about wanting to get married to throw me off from what he was about to do.

He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was giggling so much because I was so nervous, but I said “YES!” with no hesitation. In that box was the most beautiful ring I have ever seen and I can’t beleive that he did it all on his own. What an amazing man and an amazing proposal. The proposal spot means so much to him, as it is his most favorite spot to be in the entire world. Although we won’t be together again until next September, I can’t wait to marry the man of my dreams!
